It’s a busy time in Lansing. Lawmakers are deep in negotiations on the state budget and a road funding plan, with an October 1 deadline looming to avoid a government shutdown. These decisions will have real impacts for Michiganders and businesses alike. We’re pushing for a budget that supports investments in advanced mobility infrastructure from EV charging to clean fleet programs and workforce development. And, importantly, we’re calling for a road funding plan that is fair and doesn’t place disproportionate burdens on EV drivers.
On top of that, our team is on the move this month at events across the Midwest. We hope you’ll join us in person at our networking reception, DISRUPT!, on Thursday, September 25. It’s one of our favorite opportunities to connect with partners and hear fresh ideas shaping the future of mobility.
Sincerely,
THIS MONTH'S MOVEMENT
After months of funding uncertainty, the NEVI (National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure) program is back on track. Here’s the latest:
On June 17, MDOT awarded $24.5M to 48 EV charging projects across Michigan.
On August 4, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel joined a multi-state lawsuit to unlock $29M in paused NEVI funds.
On August 11, the FHWA released streamlined guidance, charting a path for withheld NEVI funds.
The new FHWA guidance simplifies state plans, speeds up approvals, and offers greater flexibility in station siting, but also reduces emphasis on resilience and outreach. As Michigan prepares to relaunch NEVI, ensuring equitable, reliable access remains key.

In August, Chase joined Senator Lauwers for a tour of Roto-Z Dairy Farm in Snover, MI. The farm uses a biodigester that transforms agricultural waste into renewable natural gas (RNG), a low-carbon fuel that cuts emissions while boosting rural economies.
We had constructive conversations about how a Michigan Competitive Fuels Policy could drive more investment in clean fuels like RNG, helping our state reduce pollution, strengthen energy security, and support farmers.
Hot Topic: EVs & Road Funding
Road funding is a hot topic in Michigan, and EVs are often brought into the debate. A new fact sheet from Clean Fuels Michigan and Michigan EIBC explains how roads are really funded, what EV drivers are already contributing, and why smart, fair solutions are needed.
