While I (impatiently) wait for consistent summer weather, the turning of the season also brings a few important updates:
Legislative summer recess is approaching, which means we’re making a final push to introduce key bills, track budget investments, and educate policymakers about our industry before they head home for a few weeks.
Fall is already on the horizon. We’re releasing tickets forDISRUPT! 2025 for members next week, so for now, save the date: September 25th in Detroit. You won’t want to miss it!
We’re nearly halfway through the year (how?!). I’ll be meeting with Chase and Tracey next week to review our strategic plan and ensure we’re doing everything possible to support our members throughout the rest of the year and beyond.
On June 4th, our Policy Manager, Chase Attanasio, testified before the Michigan House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee in support of legislation from Rep. Neyer that would put Michigan on the map as a leader in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
“These bills promote economic growth, prepare our aviation sector for the future, and drive private-sector investment in fuels that support energy security, operational efficiency, improved air quality, and long-term industry success,” Chase testified.
The Senate Natural Resources and Agriculture Committee took up mirrored bills sponsored by Senator Singh and Senator Bellino, showing strong momentum across chambers. These bipartisan bills would create a tax credit for the production and use of SAF, encouraging investment in this next-gen fuel and the industries that make it possible.
America is finally gaining momentum in the global EV race, with new factories, more consumer choices, and thousands of jobs on the line, especially in Michigan. However, proposed federal and state policies threaten to reverse that progress.
The U.S. House passed a bill that would roll back critical EV tax credits (more on that below) and impose new fees on hybrids and EVs. Meanwhile, road funding proposals in Michigan would penalize drivers who opt for cleaner vehicles.
Rolling back support now would hurt investment, slow job growth, and send the wrong signals to the global mobility market. Let’s keep driving forward!
Chase Speaks at Michigan Association of Planning Conference
Chase spoke at the Renewable Energy Summit hosted by the Michigan Association of Planning about how Michigan leaders can energize their communities with EV infrastructure by taking advantage of timely funding opportunities and forward-thinking municipal planning codes and ordinances.. The event brought together city planners and local officials from across Michigan to explore how municipal action can address the economic, social, and environmental challenges climate change presents.
The U.S. House passed legislation that would eliminate or roll back several critical tax credits established under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), including:
30D – New EVs tax credit
25E – Used EVs tax credit
45W – Commercial EVs credit
30C – Charging infrastructure credit
45V – Hydrogen production credit
45X – Clean energy manufacturing credit
One bright spot: The 45Z Clean Fuels Production Credit would be extended through 2031, with enhanced support for biogas, SAF, and other low-carbon fuels.
We’re watching these developments closely. Clean Fuels Michigan members who want help contacting their congressional delegation can contact Jane.
