October 2025

Hi Member,

It’s been a busy few weeks for Clean Fuels Michigan. The highs included participating in Michigan Mobility Week and connecting with so many of our members and partners at events across the state, including at our DISRUPT! 2025. The energy and collaboration in the room were a reminder of why this work matters.

Unfortunately, that momentum was tempered by a disappointing state budget outcome, where several of our priorities were cut and EV registration fees were increased. It’s not the result we hoped for, but the work doesn’t stop just because we face a setback. We’re fortunate to have strong champions in the legislature who share our commitment to advancing clean, competitive fuels. Together, we’ll keep pushing for policies that move Michigan forward and ensure every driver and business can benefit from the transition already underway.

Sincerely,
Jane McCurry's Signature

THIS MONTH'S MOVEMENT

Headshot of Chase Attanasio

Last week, Michigan lawmakers finalized the FY 2026 budget, concluding a lengthy and divisive process that ultimately excluded several key clean mobility priorities.

Funding for EV charging, clean fleet vehicles, and the state's own fleet transition to zero-emission vehicles was not included, representing a missed opportunity to strengthen Michigan’s leadership in advanced mobility. The budget also increases EV registration fees and eliminates the SOAR Fund.

Still, there were bright spots: the Going PRO Talent Fund and a new road user charge pilot both advance workforce development and address the changing clean fuels industry.

Road Funding Messaging Continues

Clean Fuels Michigan continues to spread the message that the Michigan road funding formula must be modified to ensure that EV drivers aren’t paying more than drivers of gas-powered vehicles.  Public News Service picked up this story and distributed it to 73 media outlets, reaching more than 600,000 readers.

CFM 2025 Summit -2

The Clean Fuels Michigan Summit will bring together Michigan leaders to accelerate the transition to clean fuels. Hosted at the University of Michigan, this half-day conference will feature thought-provoking panels, a tour of the Wilson Student Project Center, and dynamic networking in focus groups.

Our theme, Building Michigan’s Clean Fuels Future Together, reflects one of Clean Fuels Michigan’s core values: collaboration. The challenges and opportunities in clean fuels are too big for any one sector, agency, or organization to solve alone.

This event is designed to spark collaboration among industry innovators, researchers, policymakers, and community voices to build solutions together.
