Last month, the Clean Fuels Michigan team was excited to welcome our members back to Lansing for our annual Lobby Day. Our advocacy day at the state capitol provides members with an opportunity to meet directly with lawmakers and state agency leaders to discuss the latest developments in Michigan's clean mobility sector. Key topics included correcting EV and PHEV registration fees, fostering a competitive fuels market, and advancing sustainable aviation fuel incentives. These discussions underscored how smart policy can support investment, strengthen energy independence, create jobs, lower costs, and improve public health. We were also glad to connect with stakeholders the evening before lobby day for our Mobility Insiders Networking Dinner. These in-person convenings were a great opportunity to connect with our partners and energize our work. Thank you to everyone who joined us for these events!
I always appreciate the opportunity to gather in person, and look forward to carrying the momentum from these events forward in my work. On my radar this month, we're keeping an eye on the state budget process and continuing to push for action on the legislative priorities that we discussed with lawmakers on Lobby Day. In addition to continuing our policy work, I'm excited for our upcoming events. Just like in the policy realm, partnerships are critical to the success of Michigan's clean mobility ecosystem. I look forward to connecting with many of you at our upcoming in-person engagements over the next month.
Sincerely,
THIS MONTH'S MOVEMENT
In our latest blog, Chase explores why EVs are doing more than changing how we fuel our cars. They are redefining what cars can be. Beyond efficiency gains and lower maintenance, EVs are emerging as smarter, more capable platforms that are enabling the next generation of vehicle technology.
Software-defined from the ground up
EVs enable continuous improvement through over-the-air updates, meaning vehicles can evolve and improve long after they leave the lot.
Advancing safety and automation
Features like lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and hands-free highway driving are becoming more common and serve as building blocks toward higher levels of autonomy.
Built for innovation
From powering advanced sensors to enabling new in-vehicle experiences, EV architecture supports technologies that traditional systems were never designed to handle.
A natural fit for autonomy
With precise control, robust electrical systems, and simpler mechanics, EVs provide the ideal foundation for autonomous vehicle development
The opportunity ahead goes beyond any single innovation. It is about ensuring Michigan remains a global leader in designing, building, and advancing the future of mobility. Read the full blog to explore how EVs are shaping what comes next.
In January, Governor Whitmer delivered an executive directive for state agencies to explore regulatory and administrative gaps that need to be addressed to take advantage of the potential of geologic hydrogen in Michigan. State agency leaders from the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Michigan Infrastructure Office (MIO), and the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) revealed the findings from their agencies' studies at the MI Hydrogen Geologic Hydrogen Workshop on Tuesday, May 12th. Chase also presented on a panel at the workshop to outline the role of supportive policies necessary to unlock the full potential of geologic hydrogen in Michigan.
Community Energy Management Program EGLE is offering up to $50K in funding for communities to improve energy management and accelerate the implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy through the Community Energy Management (CEM) Program. Eligible projects include fleet electrification and EV charging infrastructure. Applications will be accepted until funding is committed.
There is $10 million available for public charging, andan additional $5M has been added for chargers at multifamily housing. Funding is available until it is exhausted.
Michigan fleet owners can apply for rebates to purchase new propane vehicles or convert existing vehicles to propane this year. Funding is available until funds are exhausted or until Dec 31.
